John had a deep love for sports. A standout athlete at Cornell High School, he earned five varsity letters in his senior year. A devoted fan of the Chicago White Sox and Notre Dame Fighting Irish, he took great joy in supporting his teams. He also found excitement in visiting the racetrack and Off-Track Betting (OTB), where he enjoyed the thrill of friendly wagers.
